Continuing His Legacy, One Driver at a Time
Islam “Izzy” Abu-Laban was the founder of 1 Safe Driving School, the driving school that operates today as Level Up Driving Academy.
During his years as a driving instructor, Izzy became known for his patience, encouragement, and genuine commitment to helping students become safe and confident drivers. He believed that learning to drive was about more than earning a license; it was about building confidence, responsibility, and independence.
To honor his memory and continue his passion for helping others, Level Up Driving Academy proudly established the Islam “Izzy” Abu-Laban Memorial Scholarship.
Each year, two deserving students will be selected to receive professional driver education and behind-the-wheel training while carrying forward the values that defined Izzy's life: kindness, perseverance, responsibility, and service to others.
A Message From His Family
To us, Izzy was a beloved son, brother, father, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend.
Those who knew him remember his generous heart, patience, sense of humor, and contagious laugh that could brighten any room. He had a unique ability to make people feel welcome, supported, and valued. Whether he was teaching a student, helping a friend, or spending time with family, Izzy always led with kindness, compassion, and humility.
Above all, he believed in helping others succeed and encouraging people to see their own potential. His impact continues to be felt through the students he taught, the relationships he built, and the countless lives he touched.
While we miss him every day, we are proud to continue the work he started and to honor his memory through this scholarship. We hope that every student who benefits from this program carries forward the same values that made Izzy so special.
